2010 - Where It All Started

As a sports enthusiast, I was really excited when I stumbled across SUPERBRU. Here I could test my skills against other sports enthusiasts, and enjoy some friendly competition.
Alas, the fun started dissipating when I realised that in the auto pools, half the players would lose interest during the tournament and stop doing their picks. When I did well in a pool, I had no-one to share my achievement and glory with because I knew none of the other players. The cherry on the top came when I won a Super 15 Rugby pool consisting of 143 members and the win felt hollow due to not knowing any fellow competitiors.
So I decided to start the very first CASH POOL WITH PAYOUTS , and find players who were willing to put in R 100-00 with the hope of winning some prize money. My strategy to find these players was to search through the pools where there were five or less members, and invite the captain to my pool. My thinking was that this captain was keen enough to start his or her own pool, but could not get enough players together to make it meaningful.
The first tournament that I started with was the 2010 Cricket T20 World Cup. My target was to get twenty players and to my delight the pool closed with 28 paid up members. First prize was R 1000-00 and I paid out to the top six finishers. The winner of that pool was Robnob, who also happened to finish first globally in SuperBru. He received a SuperBru T-Shirt for being the best player in the world and received a thousand rand for winning the Cash Pool and beating 27 other contestants. Ironic ? I knew then that the Cash Pool would attract the best players around and that to win prize money was going to become a much bigger challenge than that faced playing in the normal SuperBru pools.
Robnob is still a stalwart member of CPWP, which shows what a success CPWP is. Other stalwart members Stormers4eva, Joe Moer, SUPERBRU SHARK and Blitz also entered the very first Cash Pool, and can lay claim to be founder members of Cash Pool With Payouts.
The second Cash Pool With Payouts was the 2010 Soccer World Cup, and I was delighted to close the pool with a whopping 76 paid up members. Stormers4eva won the tournament and Blackadder finished third. Other CPWP regulars that are still with us and who competed in the Soccer World Cup are : Garfield, Rilman, Slob, Tez, Alsavior, John, Danie10444, SHARKY SEAN, Bloupanda, Graham MS, Madams, Shepard and Handsome.
The year 2010 ended with six completed Cash Pool tournaments, and it was clear that this was a success story that was going to last for as long as I could successfully run it. Fortunately, I can proudly say that, with the help of some fellow CPWP members, Cash Pools is still running and is growing stronger all the time.
